Support graduate students who carry forward the legacy of Lionel Cantú and help them to further their research in the areas of immigration studies, transnational/cross-border studies, Latino/Latina sociology, gender, sexuality, gay men, and masculinity.
This fund provides research grants to UCSC graduate students, selected by and in connection with the Dolores Huerta Research Center of the Americas, the Sociology Department, and the Latin American and Latino Studies Department. These promising early-career scholars use the funds to conduct field research, travel to archives, attend conferences, and advance their research endeavors.
The award was created by friends, colleagues, students, and family to celebrate the life of assistant professor of sociology Lionel Cantú after his sudden, unexpected passing. Cantú made lasting contributions both to sexuality studies and immigration studies.
