Your gift supports students and their sponsoring faculty who are participants in the Keeley Coastal Scholar program by providing additional direct financial assistance.
Donations ensure continuity for Social Sciences and Physical & Biological Sciences students in their research and education connected to coastal sustainability. This award gives underrepresented students from California with an unmet financial need an annual award to continue their work, providing more access to completing dissertation requirements en route to the Ph.D.
The award is named in honor of Daniel Briggs, a brilliant scientist and passionate adventurer, who tragically passed away in a skydiving accident at just 34 in 1998. Dan was highly respected in astronomy and programming. Beyond his academic brilliance, he embraced diverse passions, including juggling, origami, dance, music, motorcycling, and skydiving, amassing over 500 jumps. Renowned for his loyalty, dedication, and zest for life, his legacy endures through an award created in his honor by his classmates, Gabrielle and Kenneth Adelman.
