Andrea Steiner Prize for Excellence in Health Equity

Support undergraduate students who champion health equity with a sustained commitment to social justice, abundant talent, and a deep love of learning.

This prize provides no-strings-attached funding to graduating seniors, with preference given to Community Studies students. Providing additional funding to students who complete 6-month of unpaid field work enables them to continue their commitments in their final year and alleviate financial burdens that are barriers to their education.

The prize has been established in honor of long-time UCSC lecturer Andrea Stiener, who retired in 2021 from teaching. Friends and family established the fund to support students who continue her legacy of excellence in health equity education and achievement. Building this endowment enables students to contribute to work that ensures no one is denied the opportunity to live a long, healthy life because of economic, political, social, or environmental conditions.
