Your gift supports an annual scholarship awarded to one or more Social Sciences undergraduates who are passionate about social issues and committed to public service.
Students are selected based on meritorious, ongoing, and demonstrated commitment to serving their communities as well as academic excellence. Donations help students reach their full potential and continue engaging in social justice work by reducing financial barriers at every stage of their time at UC Santa Cruz.

This scholarship and fund is named in honor Gabriel “Gabe” Zimmerman, who graduated from UC Santa Cruz in 2002 as a Sociology major. Zimmerman was working for Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords as her Director of Community Outreach when he was tragically shot and killed. Generous donations from more than 520 alumni, community members, and the general public funded this initial endowment, and your contribution ensures we are able to award as many scholarships as possible.
