Nancy Matlock Teacher Scholarship

Your gift supports students enrolled in our M.A./C program, with preference given to students who previously attended Cabrillo College.

This fund provides financial assistance to aspiring K-12 educators who demonstrate both academic merit and financial need. Donations help give up to $1,500 award per students toward the cost of attendance and basic needs.

This scholarship is named in honor of Nancy Matlock, a supervisor of teacher education with the UCSC Education Department, who died of cancer in March of 1994 at the age of 46. Deeply involved in the entire Santa Cruz educational community, public education was Nancy Matlock’s passion for more than two decades and was a forceful voice for children, addressing issues of violence and racism, tolerance, and respect. Nancy re-entered school in her 30s at Cabrillo College and transferred to UC Santa Cruz, graduating from Porter College in 1979. She majored in economics and also completed coursework for a teaching credential in the Graduate Certificate in Education program.
